Sixth Pathway: Applying a Holistic, Ecosystem-Centred Approach to Optimise Future Health and Wellbeing
The Sixth Pathway is ‘Applying a Holistic, Ecosystem-Centred Approach to Optimise Future Health and Wellbeing’. This initiative views human wellbeing and the Planet’s wellbeing as intrinsically linked. We need to design neighbourhoods that work with nature to increase our wellbeing therefore decreasing the rate of disease. For example, the design of our houses and gardens allow us to reconnect with nature. At the moment, pollution fills the air, sea and land which increases diseases and destroys ecosystems. The extraction of natural resources and use of chemical fertilisers create an imbalance and natural landscapes are lost which not only destroy ecological health but also our human health as well. Through accessible data and the constant monitoring of global developments we can gain a larger comprehension of the natural world and maintain a balanced ecosystem. Policy makers invest equally in these new neighbourhoods and healthcare is equally provided to all. We also have bespoke treatments to lower the rate of disease, instead of discriminatory access, and allow humans to live and work with nature to nourish ourselves and in return help the planet.
