The Climate Change Coalition (CCC) recently spoke at COP26 in Glasgow announcing the initiative and progress that the organisation has made over the last two years as well as announcing its new members.

The strategic director of the CCC, Miroslav Polzer, hosted the panel and talked about using blockchain technology to “foster the growth of a climate-focused economy” (Coin Telegraph, 2021). He also announced that the CCC, chosen as a representative to the UNFCCC on Blockchain to share knowledge and information. The CCC currently has 250 members from a range of sectors from digital to finance.

Denby McDonnell

Some of the representatives of the CCC were at the panel on Tuesday 9 November. Denby McDonnell who is the programme manager at the Blockchain For Climate Foundation talked about using the Paris Climate Agreement on a blockchain to connecting the “ national carbon accounts of the world to enable cross border collaboration in emissions reductions” (UNFCCC, 2021). She also announced that the company recently launched the BITMO platform which is a tool to allow countries to achieve their climate initiatives which allows for “transparent and openly accountable carbon data reporting” (Coin Telegraph, 2021).

The Coin Telegraph editor in chief, Kristina Corner also spoke about using the BITMO platform to hold countries and the corporate world to account. Germanwatch who is an advisory group also spoke about its findings in the Climate Change Performance Index 2022. This index researched “the environmental performance of 60 countries worldwide, collating the data into four distinctive parameters aligned with consensus objectives in the Paris Climate Agreement” and then ranked the countries in terms of greenhouse gases, renewable energy, energy use and climate policies (Coin Telegraph, 2021). Jan Burck who co-wrote the index said “we don’t see any country with a perfect record. Even the countries in the front are not doing good enough for being on track for well below 2 degrees” (Coin Telegraph, 2021).

Tia Kansara, CEO of Replenish Earth, spoke on recent membership of the CCC, said we need to embrace technologies to achieve our net-positive goals. Working together without borders to achieve this collective goal using frontier technologies.
